Sinharaja Forest Reserve, Sri Lanka’s last primary tropical rainforest, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site designated in 1988. Covering approximately 8,864 hectares in Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, it is located in the wet zone of the southwestern mountains, showcasing pre-modern natural beauty. The reserve is a vital biosphere with high endemism, hosting over 60% of the trees, 50% of mammals, butterflies, insects, reptiles, fish, and amphibians unique to the region, as well as more than 21 endemic bird species. 135 kilometers from Colombo.
